John Hamon x Nouns: A Bold Collaboration in Public Art

Nouns like to make a statement, and Proposal 126 did just that. Nouns funded renowned French artist John Hamon to bring Nouns into the streets — literally — through a public art campaign that fused Hamon’s signature guerrilla-style tactics with Nouns.

Details

John Hamon is a French street artist who is known for plastering his face across cities worldwide. In August of 2022 Nouns voted to fund Hamon through Proposal 126, and have him take Nouns along for the ride through a series of activations including posters, projectors, and more. The goal? — To utilize Hamon’s expertise in public art to introduce Nouns to a broader audience, leveraging iconic urban spaces to make a lasting visual impact.

The collaboration resulted in 1000 posters of Hamon wearing Noggles in unexpected locations across Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Madrid and Berlin. Including a cover story in a Parisian newspaper, along with mention of Nouns.

Later and one of the more iconic moments was a giant projection of himself wearing Noggles on the Eiffel Tower during NFT Paris in 2024. You can collect this limited edition moment directly from the artist on Foundation.

Hamon then brought Nouns to New York City through a series of images across billboards in Time Square. Making this a truly global Nounish takeover.

Hamon’s proliferation of Nouns didn’t end in the streets. His approach ensured that Nouns were not just seen but talked about—whether as part of a Snapchat Lens Filter (Try it here) or in various podcasts and interviews.

The success of Proposal 126 didn’t go unnoticed. To recognize Hamon’s contribution, Nouns awarded him a Noun through Proposal 525. This gesture highlighted Nouns commitment to fostering long-term relationships with artists who align with its mission.

This project, like so many funded by Nouns, exemplifies the power of creativity and community-driven funding to proliferate the Nouns brand into the world on- and off-chain.

More on the Team

John Hamon is a French artist active since 2000, renowned for his innovative public art campaigns that challenge traditional notions of art and promotion. Utilizing methods inspired by graffiti and political advertising, he employs a simple identity photograph taken at 17, which he displays through massive street posters and impressive projections on public monuments and institutions. His work operates on the principle that “C’est la promotion qui fait l’artiste ou le degré zéro de l’art” (“It’s the promotion that makes the artist or the zero degree of art”), prompting reflection on the role of promotion in the art world.
